Thermage is an exciting breakthrough that addresses the fundamental reason why we show signs of aging skin: collagen loss. We all lose approximately 1 – 2 % of our collagen for every year of our life. Our skin, like other body tissues, deteriorate faster than repair can take place.
By age 40 we are close to losing half of what we started out with and then our skin starts losing its valuable elasticity and is no longer able to counter the never ending effects of gravity and other forces constantly being exerted on our skin. Our skin stretches and excess skin forms that causes the familiar signs of aging: lower eyebrows, loose skin around the eyes, more wrinkles, grooves around the mouth, jowls, baggy neck skin, loose upper arm and abdominal flab and so on.
The new DEEP treatment tips are now available and thigh, buttock, leg and stomach cellulite can now be much more effectively treated in a single treatment session than ever before. It provides skin tightening simultaneously, so that the overall effect after a few months of treatment is firmer, smoother and more elastic skin and treatments should be repeated every 2 to 3 years.
Thermage is performed in the office, requires no anesthesia and one procedure that takes approximately 90 minutes can provide results that last for years. Collagen formation is stimulated through radio frequency in the deeper skin layers while the surface of the skin is kept cool and protected, with results that keep improving for months after a single treatment and no downtime.
By combining Thermage with Botox, fillers, Intense Pulsed Light and Photodynamic therapy, amazing overall results can be achieved. Some patients may have lost the opportunity to see full results with Thermage and may have to consider a face lift before the Thermage procedure can be done to improve the skin quality. If Thermage is done early enough, it may be able to prevent ever needing more invasive procedures.
Maintenance treatments may be required every 3 to 5 years and in 10% of cases where results can be subtle, a repeat treatment in 1 year’s time may be recommended. Costs vary depending on the body area being treated. In our office all procedures are personally administered by Dr. van Aardt, the first physician to do Thermage in Nova Scotia, and he has performed hundreds of Thermage procedures since 2003.
As individual needs may vary, please make an appointment for a personal consultation with Dr. van Aardt and start your journey towards healthier, younger looking skin!
